Steps and optional Android permission
Walkvale uses your phone’s step counter to award Energy and Trail XP and advance walking goals. Steps are used for gameplay, not health assessment, fitness scoring, medical inference or health-risk evaluation. The game does not use GPS, location tracking or Health Connect.
Walkvale uses the step counter only if you allow it in Android’s permission settings. You can deny or change Physical activity permission in Android Settings → Apps → Walkvale → Permissions. You can play without it, but walking rewards and step-based goals will not progress, which limits normal progression.
The game processes step readings on your device while active and checks changes when you return. It stores daily step totals, walking-goal progress, partial reward calculations and technical counter checkpoints locally. It does not keep a full dated walking-history archive. Stopping sensor access does not erase previously saved information.
Game saves and current services
Progress, inventory, rewards, character choices, quests, building timers, village layout, camera choices, tutorial state and game preferences are saved on your device, together with the step-related information described above. Saves and recovery copies remain until replaced or deleted; there is no fixed expiry. Daily totals reset when the game observes a later day, while earned progress remains.
There are no developer-operated player accounts or cloud saves. The current game has no in-game advertising, real-money purchases, gameplay analytics or integrated crash-reporting service. The in-game Shop uses game currencies. These statements concern the game; website hosting, email and Android backup are described separately.
Android backup and device transfers
On supported devices, a selected game snapshot is eligible for Android-managed cloud backup and device-to-device transfer. It contains progress, preferences and activity-derived information such as daily steps and walking-goal progress, but excludes the previous device’s sensor baseline and permission-request history. Other local save and temporary files are excluded from this selected backup.
Android and your selected backup or transfer service decide whether and when copies are made and restored, under your device and account settings. The developer does not operate this service or have access to your backup account. A backup can be older than your latest progress and is not real-time synchronization.
Walkvale does not encrypt its local saves or prepared backup snapshot. Backup protection depends on Android, your device settings and the service used; end-to-end encryption is not guaranteed for every backup or transfer. Provider retention and deletion are governed by that service’s controls and policies.
Deleting game data
Use Settings → Saves & Privacy → Delete All Game Data and type DELETE to confirm. This removes local game saves, recovery copies, temporary saves and the locally prepared backup snapshot, then starts a new game. It covers saved steps, progress and game preferences. It does not revoke Android activity permission.
You can also clear the app’s storage in Android settings or uninstall it to remove app-specific local data. Clearing only the cache is different. These actions do not delete remote Android backups, copies on other devices, manually copied files, website preferences or emails. An older backup may restore data after reinstalling or transferring the game. Use your Android or backup provider’s controls to manage available backups and restore choices; a later backup of a new game does not guarantee deletion of every older copy.
Website preferences
The website stores your manual language and theme choices in your browser’s local storage. Otherwise it uses your browser’s first preferred language and system theme. Direct English and Finnish policy links open in their specified language. Language selection does not use IP geolocation, and the site code does not send your stored choices to the developer.
Preferences remain until changed or removed, subject to browser behavior. You can clear them with your browser’s site-data controls. The website has no player accounts, contact forms, advertising pixels or marketing cookies.
Cloudflare hosting and optional website analytics
The website is prepared for hosting on Cloudflare Pages. When you visit a Cloudflare-hosted page, Cloudflare processes request information such as your IP address, requested page, request time and browser information to deliver and protect the website. Enabled security features may use necessary security cookies. Cloudflare’s retention depends on the service, data and security purpose; the developer does not set a single retention period for all provider records.
Cloudflare Web Analytics may be enabled for visitor statistics and website performance. It is not included in the website source, and activation through the hosting dashboard has not been confirmed. When enabled, its browser beacon sends page-view and performance information to Cloudflare, including page and referring-site information and browser/device characteristics. It is separate from gameplay analytics.
Cloudflare states that this analytics beacon does not use cookies or browser storage or fingerprint individual visitors. Cloudflare receives the source IP address when handling the request and states that it discards it at the nearest data centre rather than retaining it in its core analytics databases or logs. The developer uses statistical reports to understand visits and improve the website, not for advertising or individual player profiles.
Support and privacy emails
Email links open your email application. If you contact us, we receive your email address, any name you provide, message content, attachments and delivery information. We use these to answer questions, investigate reported problems and handle privacy requests. Send only relevant information, avoid sensitive personal details and ask before sending a game save, which can contain step and progress information.
Cloudflare Email Routing forwards incoming messages to a dedicated free consumer Gmail account used only for Walkvale. The developer handles the correspondence; Cloudflare and Google also process information to provide their services. Consumer Gmail is not Google Workspace and does not provide a Workspace Data Processing Agreement for this mailbox.
The intended retention period is 12 months after the last communication. Messages may be kept longer where necessary to resolve an ongoing matter, establish or defend a legal claim, or meet a legal obligation. Provider backups and deletion cycles may retain copies longer. Deleting game data does not delete correspondence.
Purposes and legal bases
Saving progress, providing the optional walking rewards you enable and handling support needed to provide the game are based on our agreement with you to provide the game. Step access is optional, and steps are used only for the gameplay described above.
Remembering your website preferences, running and protecting the site, answering general enquiries and, if enabled, gathering limited website statistics are based on legitimate interests. These interests are keeping the site usable and secure, helping users and improving site performance without advertising profiles. We limit processing to what is needed for these purposes.
Handling privacy requests and keeping records required by law are based on legal obligations. Keeping information needed to resolve an ongoing matter or handle legal claims is based on legitimate interests.
Providers and international processing
Cloudflare provides email forwarding and is the intended website hosting and optional analytics provider. Google provides the receiving consumer Gmail mailbox under its consumer terms and privacy policy, including its own controller responsibilities. Cloudflare’s customer Data Processing Addendum applies to covered processing on a customer’s behalf; providers also process some information for their own purposes. Android backup and transfer providers operate under your device and account arrangements.
These services may process information outside Finland and the EU/EEA, including in the United States. Cloudflare and Google describe international processing and applicable safeguards in their published policies. Depending on the service and recipient, these can include adequacy decisions and standard contractual clauses. This policy does not guarantee EU-only storage or that every transfer is covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the same contractual terms. Contact the privacy address for information about the arrangements relevant to your request.
Your rights
Under applicable data protection law, you can ask to access, correct or delete your personal data, limit its use or receive it in a transferable format. These rights depend on the situation. You can also object to processing based on legitimate interests.
Contact privacy@playwalkvale.com. We normally respond within one month. Complex requests or a large number of requests may need up to two additional months; if so, we will tell you why within the first month. We may ask for information needed to verify your identity. The developer cannot remotely access your local saves or Android backup account. Manage those copies using your device and backup provider’s controls.
You can complain to a data protection authority, including Finland’s Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman.
Audience and policy updates
Walkvale is intended for people aged 13 and older, not children under 13. A parent or guardian with a privacy concern can contact privacy@playwalkvale.com.
We update this policy when the game, website or processing practices change and show the updated date here. Material changes will be highlighted on the website and, where appropriate, through the game.
